1️⃣ Possessed Gyeon U returns to be in control of his own body every time there is physical touch between him and Seong Ah. After Seong Ah knows Gyeon U can have control over his own body every time there is physical touch between them, she brings Gyeon U back to her house with them holding hands together.

Since only Seong Ah can keep the ghost in Gyeon U's body under control, Seong Ah's spirit mom reluctantly gives permission for Gyeon U to sleep in Seong Ah's room during his stay in the shrine. Seong Ah gives the ghost who is inside Gyeon U's body a temporary nickname—she calls the ghost Bongsu.

2️⃣ Bongsu is a ghost who was a teenager soldier before he lost his life in a battle. Bongsu doesn't remember his name and that's the reason he can't cross over to the other world as a deceased. Bongsu is dazzled by Seong Ah's beauty from the time he saw her dance the flower lantern dance with Yeom Hwa.

Seong Ah and her spirit mom, along with other shamans of their alliance, are powerless to chase Bongsu out of Gyeon U's body. All they can do is only waiting for Bongsu to recall his own name, get closure for any regrets he has in the living world and then for him to cross over to the other world by his own will.

3️⃣ After being possessed by Bongsu, Gyeon U's ears can hear the traumatizing battle gun sounds that traumatize Bongsu whenever Bongsu hears gun sound effects. That is the start of Gyeon U being able to hear what ghosts hear. For the day of Gyeon U's archery competition, Bongsu teaches Seong Ah the Suppress Technique so Gyeon U can have control over his own body during the competition without having to rely on physical touch from Seong Ah.

However, on that day, Yeom Hwa uses the Unify Spell, trying to be one with Bongsu's spirit, and that becomes an attack on Gyeon U. The attack causes Gyeon U's eyes to be able to see ghosts too, and he saw Seong Ah in her fairy form for the first time on that day—the way how Seong Ah looks to Bongsu.

After the competition, Gyeon U tells his condition to Seong Ah's great aunt who is also a shaman, and she warns Gyeon U to be careful not to be tainted by blood, otherwise his body will be fully taken over by Bongsu.

4️⃣ Gyeon U gets hurt and tainted by his own blood when he is trying to stop Mo Beom from committing suicide. Bongsu immediately uses the chance to fully take over and become the new owner of Gyeon U's body.

While Bongsu has full control over Gyeon U's body, he lives his life diligently as Gyeon U to the point he does his best in archery practice too, thinking that he wants to fully replace the presence of the real Gyeon U. As for Seong Ah, her touch can no longer help Gyeon U in keeping Bongsu under control. The real Gyeon U only has control over his own body during the ghost hour (1:30a.m.-3:30a.m.).

5️⃣ Bongsu is heartbroken when he sees that Seong Ah only smiles happily in front of him when she thought he was the real Gyeon U. It breaks Bongsu too to see with his own eyes that Seong Ah only wants to find his real name for him to quickly cross over to the other world.

Upset, Bongsu throws a tantrum and conflict arises between him, Seong Ah, and Jiho. Fearing that Bongsu will overtake Gyeon U's body for real, Jiho later takes Bongsu's ring and gives it to Yeom Hwa, believing that she will do a rite to help Gyeon U regain control over his own body. However, Yeom Hwa uses the ring to hold a rite to summon a grim reaper to collect Gyeon U's soul for her goal of turning Bongsu into an evil deity.

The rite causes Bongsu pain, and he retaliates by reading shamanic spells to make the grim reaper go and collect Yeon Hwa's soul instead.
In their contest of wills, Bongsu manages to redirect the grim reaper from taking Gyeon U's soul. Instead, Seong Ah and Yeom Hwa's spirit mom, General Dong Cheon shaman, becomes the one whose soul is taken by the summoned grim reaper.

Her soul is taken because she becomes a human amulet for Yeom Hwa without Yeom Hwa realizing it. Witnessing their spirit mom breathe her last, Yeom Hwa regrets her own doings and runs to look for Bongsu to hold him responsible—but Bongsu has run away.

6️⃣ Even though Seong Ah is heartbroken by her spirit mom's passing, she still remembers her spirit mom's teaching to truly listen to ghost in order to give them the consolation they need to cross over to the other world. So, Seong Ah decides to bring Bongsu's spirit along with her and go missing for years trying to look for ways to help Bongsu.

In the meantime, everyone moves forward in their lifes, graduates high school, and goes to college. Time passes and while they are still waiting for Seong Ah to come back, Gyeon U has been actively looking for her all around the land of South Korea, only to no avail.

7️⃣ Yeom Hwa asks Gyeon U to tell her if he ever finds Seong Ah. This is because a rite needs to be held to exorcise Bongsu, who now stays in Seong Ah's body as an evil deity. The act of exorcising Bongsu will very likely cause Seong Ah to lose her life.

Yeom Hwa also asks Gyeon U to tell her if Seong Ah ever goes to his dream to bid him goodbye in white clothes. Dreaming of Seong Ah coming to bid goodbye in white clothes means she has already died, and all they have to do is collect her body for the exorcism rite. There are chances they can see Seong Ah in dreams because Gyeon U, Seong Ah, and Yeom Hwa were once bound by unify spell when Yeom Hwa did a rite wanting to be one with Bongsu's spirit in the past.

Gyeon U then starts to frequently come to Seong Ah's dream when he is sleeping at night, but he does not tell Yeom Hwa about it. Gyeon U indeed starts to come to Seong Ah's dream, but Seong Ah is always in hiding every time he comes. Seong Ah hides because she worries she will cause harm to Gyeon U.

Until one day, Gyeon U is inside Seong Ah's dream again, and he later decides to visit Flower Master shaman's shrine at the beachside after he sees the shrine drawing on the blackboard in Seong Ah's dream.

In the shrine, Gyeon U gets lucky and he finds Seong Ah!

8️⃣ Gyeon U finally finds Seong Ah, but Seong Ah's body has been taken over by Bongsu.

Bongsu tells Gyeon U that Seong Ah's spirit vessel is starting to crack for holding onto his spirit, which is so strong as an evil deity. Bongsu wants to leave Seong Ah's body, but she is not letting him go—maybe for the reason of protecting people and preventing living things from dying because of Bongsu's power as an evil deity. Unsure of the reason why,
Bongsu also can’t switch the body’s control over to Seong Ah at his own will.

Bongsu then tells Gyeon U where to find Seong Ah if he happens to be inside Seong Ah's dream again. When Gyeon U is inside Seong Ah's dream again, he pretends to be Bongsu and only then does Seong Ah come out from her hideout. Gyeon U then tells Seong Ah he is Gyeon U, not Bongsu.

They kiss in the dream.
With that, Bongsu goes back inside Gyeon U's body, and Seong Ah is herself again when she wakes up from her sleep. Gyeon U tells Seong Ah he will take care of matters related to Bongsu, so he asks her to let him.

9️⃣ After Gyeon U spends some time with Seong Ah,

Yeom Hwa comes to fetch him for the exorcism rite. A
spell is cast on Seong Ah when she is asleep to keep her from waking up while they are trying to send Bongsu to cross over to the other world forcefully using the rite. When the rite is still going on, Seong Ah manages to wake up from her sleep after she realizes she is deliberately being held in her sleep with a dream.

Seong Ah quickly rushes back to the shrine where she and her spirit mom used to live together. She goes back there to beg the shrine deities and her patron deity to return so she can have her power back as a shaman again. After she begs desperately in her cry, the shrine deities and her patron deity return to the shrine along with her spirit mom too as one of the deities😭

With that, Seong Ah's shaman power returns to her. Regaining her power, Seong Ah immediately runs to find Gyeon U and Yeom Hwa in the abandoned house.

1️⃣0️⃣ When Seong Ah reaches the abandoned house, she manages to stop the dangerous exorcism rite, and Gyeon U too is able to help Bongsu remember who he really is just in time. Bongsu's real name is Jang Yoon Bo. In the abandoned house, a parallel moment happens. Bongsu bids goodbye to Seong Ah at the place they first met.

After sending Bongsu off, it is a happily-ever-after ending for everyone.

Gyeon U is selected to join the national archery team to represent the Republic of Korea in the 2028 LA Olympic Games.
Seong Ah also realizes being a shaman is her true calling. So, she continues to be one instead of going to college like others.

Brief Commentary:
Bongsu is an entertaining addition to this drama's plot. His demeanor when he is in control of Gyeon U and Seong Ah's body certainly puts viewers on hook while watching the drama.

When Bongsu is in control of Gyeon U's body, it is amusing to watch Gyeon U looking bubbly and lively with Bongsu's persona, in contrast to real Gyeon U who is more of a taciturn person.

Meanwhile, Bongsu is a rebel in his fashion sense when he is in control of Seong Ah's body. He causes headache for Gyeon U and Jiho by wearing his bold choice of fashion along with an attitude totally opposite from who Seong Ah is as a person.

Bongsu is definitely a fun character. However, it is indeed eerie too to see that he actually really was coveting to take the real Gyeon U's life by diligently practicing archery and making friends with people in Gyeon U's surroundings when he had full control over Gyeon U's body.

Thank God, Bongsu redeems himself near the drama's ending when he's willing to be sent off to the other world, even if by means of force.

Head Over Heels: Drama Recap of the Second Half

Friday, September 12, 2025

1️⃣ Park Seong Ah is a high school student who is working as Heaven and Earth Fairy shaman as her part-time job. When working her part-time job, she always covers half of her face with a mask to keep her secret working as a shaman from being known by her high school classmates. Seong Ah is raised by her spirit mother who is also a shaman, called the General Dongcheon shaman.

2️⃣ One day during Seong Ah's part-time work, Gyeon U and his grandma come to ask for a consultation from her. When looking at Gyeon U's handsome face, Seong Ah can't help but fall for him at first sight. However, Gyeon U's image appears to be upside down in her eyesight as a shaman.

Anyone whose image appears upside down in a shaman's eyesight means that the person only has 21 days more to live. Seong Ah passionately makes a promise that she will help to free Gyeon U from his streak of misfortune after she receives a satisfying answer from Gyeon U to her important question. However, Gyeon U quickly turns down her offer and says he is only there for the consultation because his grandma begged him to.

3️⃣ Gyeon U is someone who was born with energy that attracts all kind of ghosts to be mean to him. Hence, Gyeon U has been pestered by misfortune all his life ever since he was still a kid, and his grandma has been raising him alone after he was abandoned by his own parents. Gyeon U's grandma is determined to find a way to save him from the stubborn streaks of misfortune. Meanwhile, Gyeon U hates shamans because it always felt like he and his grandma were only being scammed when those shamans took their money but their solutions never worked.

4️⃣ The next day at school, Gyeon U is introduced as a new transfer student by Seong Ah's homeroom teacher and he is assigned to their class.

With her face mask off, Gyeon U doesn't recognize that Seong Ah was the shaman he and his grandma visited last night. As Seong Ah has fallen for Gyeon U head over heels and now that they are in the same class, Seong Ah tries her best to be friends with Gyeon U. That way it will be easier for her to protect him from any dangerous ghosts without him knowing that her part-time job is working as a shaman.

5️⃣ Before Gyeon U's critical 21 days are up and only 2 days are left, Seong Ah has protected Gyeon U from a water ghost, fire ghost, baby ghost, and suicide ghost. In the process, Seong Ah even becomes a human amulet in her attempt to keep the suicide ghost away from Gyeon U.

6️⃣ When running a lap as a welcoming ceremony for entering their school's archery club, Gyeon U runs into Seong Ah working as a shaman without her covering her face, dancing the flower lantern dance with Yeom Hwa at the haunted abandoned house.

Seong Ah's secret of working as a shaman is exposed to Gyeon U right on the spot. Gyeon U also misunderstands that Seong Ah is an ally of Yeom Hwa when Seong Ah only dances with Yeom Hwa thinking that Yeom Hwa is one of the shamans called by her spirit mom to do a shamanic ritual to cleanse the haunted abandoned house.

7️⃣ Yeom Hwa is the shaman of Gyeon U's family who has long caused Gyeon U with emotional torture by blatantly painting him as source of misfortune, and she never intends to stop misfortune from keeps happening to him. Yeom Hwa only becomes the family's shaman for money and for her own interest.

Yeom Hwa is the main antagonist in this story. She is in the process of making the ghost in the abandoned house an evil deity for her to worship by causing people to lose their lives whenever there are unexpected visitors who are unknown of the matter go inside the house. It looks like she does all the bad things in order to rebel against her spirit mom's way of teaching. Yeom Hwa and Seong Ah have the same spirit mom, but they don't know each other because Yeom Hwa left before Seong Ah was taken in.

8️⃣ Jiho steps up to be Gyeon U's human amulet instead of Seong Ah when her effectiveness as Gyeon U's human amulet is no longer working to protect him from any ghosts after he started to hate her. Jiho is Seong Ah's best friend and he has a crush on Seong Ah. Jiho is someone who has a big heart that he sincerely wants to befriend Gyeon U although Gyeon U is Seong Ah's crush.

9️⃣ Gyeon U lets Seong Ah into his house to take shelter from the rain when he sees her crying in the rain. In his house, only then is Seong Ah able to tell Gyeon U that she and Yeom Hwa really are strangers to each other and that she saw Yeom Hwa for the first time at the abandoned house. Seong Ah leaves Gyeon U's house with him looking like he just realized he did Seong Ah wrong for not giving her any chance to explain herself and listen to her side of story before proceeding to accuse her with his own assumption.

1️⃣0️⃣ Later, after that day, Jin Ung's dog Bok Hee goes to find Seong Ah in the classroom to seek help for Jin Ung who is struggling for his life when the ghost in the abandoned house tries to possess him. Seeing Bok Hee barking desperately for her attention, Seong Ah immediately asks for an excuse from the teacher on duty and runs out of the classroom to look for Jin Ung. Gyeon U rushes out too, followed by Jiho. Once inside the abandoned house, Gyeon U is possessed by the ghost instead of Jin Ung. Possessed Gyeon U tries to kiss Seong Ah.

Brief Commentary:
It feels like the drama shows less focus on the appeal of Gyeon U's personality. Actor Choo Young Woo's acting is good, but Seong Ah falls for Gyeon U's visual. Maybe that's the reason there is no need to charm viewers with Gyeon U's personality? The drama opening's narration depicts more about how misfortune streaks affected Gyeon U's life and how ghosts keep being drawn to pester him until his life is in constant danger.

Seong Ah's encounters with ghosts in her effort to protect Gyeon U from being harmed are what really intriguing some people to tune in to watch the drama. Besides that, people can't help but adore Seong Ah while looking at her cheerful smile that feels so warm and healing to watch.

In this drama, we also can see Jiho's gentle one-sided love toward Seong Ah. He has a crush on Seong Ah, but he does not pressure Seong Ah with his feelings for her.

Even with his one-sided feelings, he is someone one would still feel comfortable having around because that is how he is. It moves viewers' hearts when Jiho is being obvious about his feelings for Seong Ah only for her to be oblivious about them. Sad, but it's okay—2nd male lead is always for us the viewers.

Head Over Heels: Drama Recap of the First Half

Thursday, September 11, 2025

Hosu
Hosu is someone who doesn't talk much, but he always speaks with purpose, and intention. So when he does speak, people hear him clearly and can't help but give him their attention. Hosu lives up to his name—his persona is calm and deep like a lake.

It is endearing too, to watch how long Hosu has waited silently for Miji to see his heart.
The cherry on the cake is actor Park Jinyoung's subtly enthralling visual and strong performance in delivering micro-expressions, which make Hosu an even more well-loved character.

Story of  Mirae & Sejin
Sejin is a gentle and comfortable existence that slowly left a significant mark in Mirae's life—so gentle that she doesn't mind letting him in. He softly keeps knocking on the door to Mirae's heart by seeing her for who she is when working with her. Without any deliberate move, Sejin's genuinely warm nature becomes a validation to Mirae of what she was deprived of previously from working with colleagues that ostracized her.

When Mirae is hesitating to leave her not-so-fulfilling job, Sejin again delicately shows her it's okay to quit by bringing her around and introducing her to his friends who have quit their jobs to work for themselves.

While Miji has Hosu, Mirae has Sejin as her company🥰

Miji & her grandmother
Miji and her grandmother have always had a special bond with each other. Her grandmother is the reason that helps her step out of her room after she cooped herself up inside for years. They even made a promise to each other—to stay strong and endure every day for one another. To keep the promise so Miji stays strong too, Miji's grandmother held on every day for 10 years despite being bedridden.

Maybe because of their shared connection, Miji's grandmother came to bid goodbye to Miji before her passing. Miji's grandmother even asked Miji to confirm that she would be okay even without her beside her. The goodbye gives closure to Miji and the chance for her to see her grandmother looking healthy, all well, and fully recovered again.
Miji and her grandmother's last moment together has made many viewers cry😭

Our Unwritten Seoul: Hidden Charms

Wednesday, July 9, 2025

● Park Bo-young with blonde hair as Miji.
This is the first time ever she did her hair blonde. That makes people wonder if there is a correlation between her having blonde hair and her character in the drama.

● Park Bo-young (158cm tall) and Park Jin-young (178cm tall)'s height difference.
Park Bo-young is famous for being paired with male leads who often tower over her, making her look so petite beside them. That's cute, but her pairing with Park Jin-young draws people's attention too, to see how their visual chemistry will look with just a 20cm height gap.

Look at their height difference♡!

● Park Bo-young's good acting that makes people feel like Miji & Mirae were acted by two different people.

● When Miji & Mirae swap lives without others knowing.
- Mirae goes down to their hometown, Duson-ri, and pretends to be Miji while doing farm work in a strawberry field.
- Miji goes to Seoul in Mirae's place and does office work because her sister was suffering from being ostracized in the workplace.

Mirae in strawberry field.

● The way Miji and Mirae barely know what's going on in each other's lives when they are not just like any common siblings—they are twins.

● Miji's every morning mantra:

"Yesterday is over, Tomorrow is yet to come, Today is yet unknown."
(어제는 끝났고, 네일은 멀었고, 오늘은 아직 모른다.)
Her morning mantra makes people want to know if there is a backstory to it.

● When it's so clear to viewers that the one Hosu likes is Miji right from the start.
No confusion or frustrating guessing game for viewers. Hosu's transparent heart can be seen when he purposely wears his one and only pink-coloured necktie whenever he goes to visit his mom, hoping that Miji will see it. (The necktie was chosen by Hosu's mom with Miji's help!)

● No triangle love among the leads; each with their own love interest.

● Mirae (actually Miji) & Hosu's interaction
- It's heart-fluttering to watch Hosu keep seeing Miji in her pretense as Mirae.
- Miji has the chance to see how much Hosu cares for her while pretending to be Mirae.
- Miji finally gets to know that she is Hosu's first love.

● The way Hosu confirming his guess that it's actually Miji all along, filling in for Mirae in Seoul.
- No cliché conflict like "How could you fool me" or "Was it fun to fool me?"
- This part of the plot transitions in an unexpectedly refreshing way and keeps viewers watching it on countless repeat.

● Beonhong ahjumma's gentleness.
- Not just toward her son, Beonhong ahjumma is just as gentle toward others too—Miji, Mirae, and Okhee (the twins' mum).
- It's healing every time to see a character in a K-drama say the kind of lines she says🥹 feels like Beonhong ahjumma's gentle character has the power to heal what's broken within one's soul.

Our Unwritten Seoul: The Intriguing Points Hard to Ignore!

Saturday, July 5, 2025
